January 13, 2019

Reading:  This week we are reading the story, "The Langston Times" which is a newspaper version of the building of the school from the story we read last week.  See their binder for the vocabulary and story information.  Test will be Friday

Grammar:  We will continue our study of subject verb agreement this week.  Look for the papers we've done to review for the test.  Test will be Friday,

Spelling:  This week we are studying the /s/ sound spelled ce, ci_, and cy; /j/ spelled ge and gi_.  The test is on Friday with a pretest on Thursday.  If they make 100 on the pretest, they do not have to do it on Friday!!

We have lots of exciting things going on this month.  We are all looking forward to seeing Freckleface Strawberry Musical January 23rd.  The cost is $14 and is due on January 21st.  This is another great opportunity for us to see a book that we will read in a performance.  It gives us lots to talk and write about as well as compare/contrast!!

Keep encouraging your child to read at home!! I want everyone to make their AR goal this nine weeks.  We can't wait until the last minute!!  I hope you were able to access the new AR website so that you will receive notifications of when your student takes a test.

January 24th is our 100th Day of school.  YES!!! I can hardly believe it!! If you could let your child design or create a t-shirt to wear that day (or buy, if you prefer), that would be great!  We will do lots of fun activities to promote learning in a fun way to celebrate being 100 Days Smarter!!!

January 28th is our Honors Day.  It will begin at 8:15!!

January 28th, our class will tour the Eufaula Courthouse. Judge Smithart will address the children and let us tour his offices and courtroom.  Mrs. Paige Smith will also talk with us.  This is apart of our reading unit in which we are learning about how our community helps us. These people impact our community and we as responsible citizens need to make sure we are voting for the right people.  Teach them while they are young, and when they are old...they won't depart from it!

Whew!! That's a lot of news and time flies!! If you have any questions, please let me know.  If you are interested in joining us on our tour, please do!! The children always have great questions to ask.  You will be amazed!!

Go Chiefs!
Mrs. Kim
