October 27, 2019

We have a lot of exciting things going on in school this week.  It is Red Ribbon Week!  Please see the school site for designated outfits to wear each day to show your support of Drug Awareness Week!! Our class will have our Fall Party on Thursday at 1:45 in our classroom!! It just so happens in coincides with the "designated outfit" being their costume, if they choose!! :)
Our AR has gotten off to a great start for some!! We have half the class having moved their clothespin down the chart to show where they are in achieving their second nine weeks AR goal!! Let's all get to reading!!
In math, we are continuing our study of facts...this week it is sums of 11 and a review of previous facts!! Keep practicing! Remember their is an assessment every 5 lessons.  We are also talking about word problems with some and some more or some and some went away. We are identifying halves, fourths, and eighths of a whole. We will practice trading dimes for pennies and measuring to the nearest inch. Then we will add 10 to a two-digit number. Make sure to look over your child's homework page each night!
In science, we are still studying matter.  (Solids, liquids, and gases) We have an exciting experiment planned for Thursday morning.  Be sure to ask your child about it! (I sure hope it doesn't get lost in the excitement of the party!)
We started talking about singular and plural nouns and even looked at some irregular plural nouns today.  Your child has a chart for a reminder inside his/her binder. We will test on this concept Nov. 8th.
Our new story is called "What makes the Earth Shake?" It uses a variety of cultural myths that try to explain how earthquakes happen.  A very interesting read!! The phonics skill is the /n/and /r/ sounds, and using the inflectional endings -er and -est. I'm so glad we got a jump on those since we just finished talking about adjectives!!
We've got a great week in store for us! Go Chiefs!
