Dear Parents,
Well the first nine weeks is in the books! Wow! What a great start we've had! We've learned a lot about maps and landforms. We took a field trip to Oxbow Meadows. We've designed, created, and written about our landforms! We've learned a great deal and I'm excited about the upcoming unit of matter......solids, liquids, and gases! We have some great activities to go along with this unit as well as a couple of field trips to assist us in our study! Fun, fun, fun!
We are looking forward to our upcoming field trip, Nov. 5th, to the River Center in Columbus, GA, to see The Dog Man Musical. We've been reading some of the chapters in a book to familiarize those of us that have not read any of them.........very interesting characters! I hope this will inspire second graders to read and even try new types of books!
I am so excited and proud of the children who've met their AR goal for the first nine weeks. Mrs. Shoemaker will be meeting with them for a special treat. They will also be involved in a Fun Friday event where they will use ipads to listen to great fall books with the QR Reader app as well as do some research on matter using the kiddle.co safe site.
As you can see, we have been doing and will continue to do lots of interesting activities to create a love of learning in the second grade. I am excited to see what great strides these kiddos make with their reading this nine weeks as we strive hard to meet our reading goals in AR and continue to read the fascinating stories in our Open Court series!
I am loving this group of children and feel honored and blessed to be their teacher!
